Yoga for weight control
A lot of recent studies disclose that Yoga can do magic with weight
control and weight loss. The latest one was held in Seattle, Washington
by the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
The study has subjects of around 15,500 healthy, middle-aged, women
and men. This is a group of individuals that generally has difficulty
with weight loss and experiencing serious problems with weight control.
Regrettably, this is a fact that I have become really aware of in
the past few years, and cutting back on my food intake was my painful
last option. Although, I cross train every day, it took me one whole
year to shed off sixteen pounds of extra weight.
Going back to the study: the practice of yoga was defined as practicing
at least thirty minutes weekly for 4 or more years. Experts say
this is the “bare minimum,” and many Yoga teachers would
even say that this amount of Yoga will do nothing.
How times flies so fast. Yoga has been keeping a lot of people physically
fit for around 5,000 years, and its host of health benefits are
still a wonder to many and surely worthy of more studies.
Alan R. Kristal, Dr.P.H., the lead author of the study at Hutchinson
Center's Public Health Sciences Division had this to say, "Men
and women who were of normal age at weight at 45, and who consistently
do Yoga, gained only about three fewer pounds in that ten-year period
than those who did not practice Yoga."
From these studies, it would be sound to say that doing Yoga practice
to your weekly routine, and eating correctly, will add up to weight
control or weight loss.
When securing a Yoga teacher, find a mentor who is compassionate,
but will encourage you to practice a lot more often. The outcome
you will gain from the usual practice, of three to four Yoga classes
a week, will be tremendous, especially, if you do Yoga for so many
Yoga is quite low key - relative to several aerobic exercise routines,
and can be done for longevity. Your knees, hips, spine and shoulders,
will thank you for all the health benefits Yoga will keep them in.
A lot of today’s “standard” forms of exercise
do not have the same bragging rights as that of Yoga.
