Now that we have gone over a few simple breathing techniques for the office, and a couple simple-to-do poses. It’s now time to target a few common problem areas. Remember, this will help you to relax, and preform your job without suffering with the painful aches of monotonous tasks. A few of the best poses to practice are: * Neutral position While these are a simple few that will help you through your daily tasks. They will be of the most benefit to a large variety of different office workers. To accomplish the neutral position or posture (of which is an extremely important posture to understand once practicing yoga). By placing your feet directly in front of you (if sitting) or standing right under your hips; at a hip’s distance apart. You will bring your stomach inward toward your pelvis. Hold this position for about one to two minutes. (Remember, breath!!) Now it’s time to learn how to accomplish abdominal breathing. While it might sound simple, many people find it difficult to accomplish due to it’s simplicity. This lesson can help to relieve any stress that you might be feeling during your work week. First you will start in your neutral position (sitting is preferred for this task!) As you breathe inward allow your belly to slowly expand with the breath. During your exhale, draw your stomach inward. Remember to relax your shoulders. You will repeat this four to five times. If you feel light headed or dizzy you should stop immediately!! Neck stretches are another common yoga technique brought into the office. With your hands lightly resting on your waist, you will lower your chin to relax the base of your neck. Making sure your body is still placed within the neutral position. Keep this pose for two to three breaths, returning to an upright position. You will then repeat the step to both the right and left. Make sure not to over-extend your neck. If you feel any discomfort you are extending too far! Only reach as far with your neck as comfortable, nothing more, nothing less.
