Yoga for the Diabetic

Some of the recommendations that are put forth on diabetics, are those regarding physical activity and exercise. Of which will often times be discussed by your doctor prior to or after the onset of diabetes. It is suggested that you heed your doctor’s warnings of diabetes. It is common that we put off that which we don’t have. Often times ignoring the warnings of our doctor, simply because it hasn’t happened yet. However, what is it going to hurt? Living a healthy lifestyle can prevent more disease than it would ever cause.

Below is a list of some of the physical recommendations and limitations of diabetes. While it isn’t all of the recommendations that your doctor may give you. They are some of the more common to be uttered from the lips of a professional.

* Diabetics should know how to recognize the signs of hypoglycemia. Whenever possible, they should also be accompanied by someone who understands and can obtain glucides whenever the time arises. This of course takes place in the yoga class as well. Your doctor will be able to suggest a yoga teacher, of whom understands diabetes.

* Preventing hypoglycemia! Remember to always check your levels of blood glucose. This is especially true during your first phase of exercise. If you find that you have a diminishing level of insulin; you should increase your consumption of glucides . Unless otherwise specified by your doctor.

* Due to the high risk of micro-angiopaty and neuropathy. It is important to take care of your feet. Even during yoga, you should take care of your feet! If you are allowed, wear comfortable shoes!!!

* The frequency of your physical exercise should range between five to seven sessions per week. Allow yourself enough time during the week to get healthy! Often times yoga classes are held seven days a week, at different times of the day. Of which makes it easier to find the right class to fit your schedule.

* The duration of your exercise sessions should range between twenty to thirty minutes for those with type one diabetes. However if you have type two, you can anticipate forty to sixty minute sessions.

* The intensity of your exercise activity should be moderate. This of course makes yoga particularly great for diabetes! It will help you through a low-impact workout, all while helping your body and mind to ease the stress away.
