Chances are if you have back problems you have been to visit your doctor about these complaints. Your doctor may even be treating the symptoms of your back pain, however you should be considering something to help the cause. While yoga has become a popular treatment of the cause of back pain, it is still important to get your doctor’s permission prior to trying yoga. They can also direct you toward a reputable yoga teacher, of whom will have a little know-how on back pain and yoga. As your doctor may have already informed you, back pain is often times traced back to a bio-mechanical imbalance within the spinal structure. Whether it is caused by poor posture or an injury the fact still remains the same; you are in pain! Your doctor will be able to advise you not only what movements you should avoid, a productive level of challenge, safety modifications, as well as the effects or interactions between medications and exercise. This make it extremely important to voice your concerns, or wishes with your doctor. If you are planning on starting a yoga routine and have suffered from chronic back-pain, let them know your plan. Once you have spoken to your doctor, and have gotten the go ahead for yoga. It is now time to select a yoga class that understand the limitations of back pain. I would advise against any power-yoga to begin with, as it can become extremely taxing on the body if you aren’t well prepared for it. Instead, you should begin with a low impact yoga class. Allowing you to start from ground zero up. If you are unsure of what to look for in a yoga class or teacher, discuss this with your doctor. Utilizing the internet to research different facilities by using the keywords “ back pain yoga class” or others, is another great way to find the right class for you. This will allow you to read up on user reviews, and allow you to get familiar with the yoga class available to you without having to spend money before your decision. Look for a yoga instructor who will understand the limitations of back pain. Allowing the use of props and modifications, as well as your experience level to keep you safe from further back injury.
